Lithium-Calcium Grease

Lithium-Calcium Grease: General Overview, Composition and Formulation
Lithium-calcium grease combines lithium and calcium soap technology to balance mechanical stability, temperature capability, water resistance and cost. It can be developed for multipurpose, automotive, agricultural, construction and industrial applications.
The lithium-to-calcium balance, base-oil viscosity, thickener concentration and production conditions are optimised for the required NLGI grade and service conditions.
General Composition of Lithium-Calcium Grease
- COMPONENT | PURPOSE
Base oil
Mineral or synthetic oil providing lubrication and controlling speed-temperature behaviour.
Lithium soap
Contributes mechanical stability and temperature capability.
Calcium soap
Improves water resistance and adhesion.
Antioxidant
Supports storage and operating stability.
Rust and corrosion inhibitor
Protects metal surfaces in wet conditions.
Antiwear and EP additives
Improve load-carrying and wear performance.
Polymer, tackifier or dye
Adjusts adhesion, texture and appearance.
Final soap ratio and additive level depend on the application.
Production Process and Lubechem Technical Support
- TYPICAL MANUFACTURING SEQUENCE
1. Charge the initial base-oil portion.
2. Conduct controlled lithium and calcium soap formation.
3. Manage reaction temperature, water and completion.
4. Develop the thickener and remove excess moisture.
5. Add finishing oil in controlled stages.
6. Cool according to the required texture.
7. Add compatible performance additives.
8. Mill or homogenise, deaerate and test.
